Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin today launched the Amma Two-Wheeler Scheme, providing subsidized two-wheelers to women from economically weaker sections. The scheme aims to enhance women's mobility and economic independence.
Under the scheme:
- Women above 18 years can avail scooters at ₹30,000
- Government subsidy of ₹20,000 per vehicle
- Monthly installments as low as ₹500
- Priority for rural women and single mothers
Stalin stated that "This scheme will empower women by providing them safe and affordable transportation, enabling them to pursue education and employment opportunities."
The scheme has been welcomed by women's rights organizations as a step towards gender equality and economic empowerment.
